Ispahani Blog"Engineering Innovation within Limits"
During the 1950's and 60's students entering college engineering programs expected heavy technical workloads based largely on engineering theory, most teaching was based on theory lectures and an occasional hint of non technical coursework., hands-on application of technology was a far fetched idea.
Engineering was very focused on "invention with no limits".
Engineers were not boxed in with parameters that would get them thinking about the dependencies they were likely to create in inventing something that was big (like the dependency on power etc). Engineering students need a strong theory foundation with real world applications work, creative problem solving skills and introduction to critical work skills. Theory must be complemented by more intense hands on work using industry based scenarios and problems with opportunities to develop basic yet critical supporting work skills.
